This summer, Pastor Doug and Pastor Jaci have suggested a "summer reading list" so that we might continue growing together even as many of us head to the four corners of the earth for the summer.  The published list is below. Note that the comments regarding each book are taken from the back cover.

Francis Chan, Forgotten God. Colorado Springs: David C. Cook, 2009.
“…Through solid scriptural support and compelling narrative, breakthrough author Francis Chan returns us to the Holy Spirit as the Bible describes Him. He reminds us that we were not created and saved merely to survive our time on earth. Chan contends that we’ve ignored the Spirit and are reaping the disastrous results….”

Bill Hybels, Just Walk Across the RoomGrand Rapids: Zondervan : Willow Creek Resources, 2006.
“When Christ ‘walked’ clear across the cosmos 2,000 years ago, he had no formulas and no script – just an offer of redemption to people like us, many of whom were neck deep in pain of their own making…. Find out how you can make the difference of an eternity for someone standing near you. It all starts with a walk across the room.”

C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity. New York: Macmillan, 1952.
“Lewis is the ideal persuader for the half-convinced, for the good [person] who would like to be a Christian but finds his [or her] intellect getting in the way.”

John Ortberg, Who Is This Man? Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2012.
“The real power of this book rests in the paradox of our faith: that to follow Jesus is not a pathway to an easy life but a call to do hard things if we are to live in the image of our Lord.”

Phyllis Tickle, The Great Emergence. Grand Rapids: Baker Books, 2008.
“Every five hundred years, the church cleans out its attic and has a giant rummage sale. Well, not exactly. But according to internationally renowned religion expert Phyllis Tickle, this is an accurate summary of the church’s massive transitions over time. According to the pattern, we are living in such a time of change right now. Tickle calls it “the Great Emergence” – a time of dizzying upheaval and hopeful promise during which various sectors of today’s church swirl into a great confluence at the center.”Francis Chan, Forgotten God. Colorado Springs, CO : David C. Cook, 2009.

We hope you will join in! Please share your reflections as summer goes by. We would love to hear your thoughts.
